Abstract From the Canadian patent

The invention relates a nucleic acid comprising as a transgene, a gene coding for a .DELTA.-5 desaturase and to methods and processes for the production of multiply- unsaturated fatty acids in an organism into which nucleic acids have been introduced which code for polypeptides with .DELTA.-5 desaturase activity. Said nucleic acid sequences optionally with further nucleic acid sequences coding for polypeptides for the biosynthesis of fatty acids and lipid metabolism are advantageously expressed in the organism. Nucleic acid sequences coding for a .DELTA.-6 desaturase a .DELTA.-5 elongase, .DELTA.-4 desaturase and/or .DELTA.-6 elongase activity are particularly advantageous and …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed July 16, 2004 and granted April 12, 2022. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended July 16, 2024.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 16, 2026.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
