Copyright and takedown
Effective October 2, 2026. Written in plain language; the headings are a guide, not limits on what a section says.
Patent documents
USPTO patent documents are generally free of copyright restrictions. A few carry a copyright or mask work notice placed by the applicant; we reproduce such documents as public records, and rights holders can contact us as described below.
Reporting infringement
If you believe material on Patent Yard infringes your copyright, send a notice through the contact form that includes:
- the copyrighted work you believe is infringed;
- the address of the page and the material on it;
- your name and contact details;
- a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't authorized by the owner, its agent or the law;
- a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner;
- your physical or electronic signature.
We'll review notices promptly and remove or disable material where appropriate.
Counter-notices
If your content was removed and you believe that was a mistake, send a counter-notice through the contact form identifying the material, stating under penalty of perjury that you believe in good faith it was removed by mistake, consenting to the jurisdiction of the federal courts where you live (or where Patent Yard's operator resides, if you live outside the US), and including your name, contact details and signature.
Repeat infringers
We disable the accounts of people who repeatedly infringe others' rights.
Wrong or outdated listings
For a wrong status, a missing drawing or any other error in a listing, use "Report a problem" on the patent's page.
