An apparatus and method of controlling the delivery of therapeutic gas delivered to a patient undergoing positive airway pressure therapy is described. The method includes providing gas to an airway of a patient at a pressure determining a flow of the gas provided to the airway of the patient and adjusting the pressure of the gas based in part on determining that the flow does not exceed a minimum flow threshold over at least a first duration of time and that the flow exceeds the minimum flow threshold during a second duration of time.
