Abstract From the Canadian patent

A dispenser for a gaseous, gas borne or droplet substance includes a breath actuatable valve for controlling the release of the substance. The valve includes a flexible tube having a portion which is kinkable for closure of the valve and movable to an open position in which the tube is un-kinked for opening of the valve. A member provided in a body of the dispenser is movable by inhalation to un-kink the flexible tube and open the valve. The movable member has a flap arranged in the body for action of breath on it on inhalation and opening of the valve. A number of operating components are made as a single injection moulding of plastics material thereby simplifying manufacture.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed July 24, 2001 and granted April 2, 2013. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended July 24, 2021.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 24, 2023.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
