Abstract From the Canadian patent

A resuscitation device (1) for automatic compression of victim's chest using a compression belt (3) which exerts force evenly over the entire thoracic cavity. The belt (3) is constricted and relaxed through a motorized spool assembly (7) which repeatedly tightens the belt and relaxes the belt to provide repeated and rapid chest compression. Why it's free to use

  • Filed August 24, 1998 and granted April 14, 2015. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended August 24, 2018.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by August 24, 2020.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
