A method for preventing overheating of a portion of a rotor heated by a heating element in an ice management system during operation of the heating element the ice management system having at least a first switch and a second switch for controlling an electrical current flow to the heating element. The method includes switching the first switch on while the second switch remains off then measuring the current flow.
