Abstract From the Canadian patent

A method of expanding a tubular downhole comprises positioning the tubular downhole advancing an expansion device toward an end of the tubular configuring at least one end of the tubular so as to eliminate or minimize after expansion with the expansion device the reduction in end drift diameter as compared to an interior portion of the tubular providing an external groove extending to the end of the tubular and bending the end of the tubular away from the centerline of the tubular before advancing the expansion device through the end to create a taper that increases in diameter on approaching the end of the tubular.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed June 3, 2004 and granted January 3, 2012. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 3, 2024.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 3, 2026.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
