A tensioner for a synchronous or non-synchronous drive system of a motor vehicle engine. The tensioner has an installation shaft with an aperture for receiving a bolt for affixing the tensioner to a motor vehicle engine. The aperture has a center that is offset from the first axis of rotation of a tensioner arm. The stamped installation shaft has a guide portion and an integrally formed plate portion. The plate portion extends transversely from the guide portion. The guide portion extends into the pivot shaft on which the tensioner arm is pivotally mounted.
