A bariatric device and method of causing satiety in a patient includes providing a body having a wall defining a lumen. The wall is sized to conform to the shape and size of the abdominal portion of the esophagus and/or at the esophageal-gastric junction and/or the proximal cardiac portion of the stomach of the patient. The wall is adapted to exert radial pressure on the abdominal portion of the esophagus and/or the esophageal-gastric junction and/or the , proximal stomach, or cardia of the patient.
