Disclosed is a method and system for transmitting/receiving a neighbor basestation information message in a broadband wireless access system. A base station sets and transmits a neighbor base-station information message which , includes a specific flag field for limiting neighbor base-station information and a reserved field and omits iterative neighbor base-station information depending on a value set in the specific flag field thereby increasing a , transmission efficiency. A mobile terminal receives the neighbor base-station information message from the base station checks the received message, and , then updates an operator ID according to the value set in the specific flag field.
