A planar transformer device comprising a primary coil (4), a secondary coil (6) and a core (8 10), in which the , coil layers (16, 24) of the secondary coil (6) are wound onto each other in a direction which is essentially parallel to the plane of the primary coil (4). The secondary coil (6) is formed from metal foil with an insulating foil in-between.
