Abstract From the Canadian patent

The invention is a stapling device comprised of an articulation section (20) having a staple cartridge (40) containing staples and parts of a staple-firing mechanism located at one end and an anvil portion (42) located at the other end. The front surfaces of the anvil and the cartridge are curved. When the articulation section is bent the curved front surfaces of the anvil and the cartridge are brought opposite each other. As the distance between said curved surfaces is reduced, their curvature helps to correct transverse misalignment and to bring the anvil and the cartridge into the correct working relationship.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed February 15, 2005 and granted August 28, 2012. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended February 15, 2025.
  • Certificates of supplementary protection extend only drug patents, and it isn't classified as one.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
