A method and system to mitigate the pressure fluctuations in hydraulic turbines operated at partial discharge, by injecting high velocity control jet or jets of liquid downstream of the turbine runner on the upper portion of the draft tube along the machine axis; the liquid jet(s) flow rate can be adjusted continuously depending on the pressure fluctuation level in the draft tube so as to control the swirling flow downstream of the runner and avoid helical vortex breakdown at partial discharge regimes thus eliminating the main cause of pressure fluctuations.

Why it's free to use
- Filed June 9, 2006 and granted May 19, 2015. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 9, 2026.
- Certificates of supplementary protection extend only drug patents, and it isn't classified as one.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
