Abstract From the Canadian patent

The invention is directed to analytical devices and micro-arrays with integral fluidic inputs and outputs. The devices are constructed from planar solidphase hydrophilic matrix circuits (711-714) containing dry chemical reagents overlaying integral electro-kinetic pumping electrodes (702-705). The hydrophilic matrix circuits (711-714) are enclosed within a gas permeable electrical insulator (715). The devices are for use in micro-scale bioanalysis, mixture separation and reaction.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed November 27, 2003 and granted February 7, 2012. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended November 27, 2023.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 27, 2025.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
