Abstract From the Canadian patent

A tissue product having a combination of substantially equal tensile energy absorbed (TEA) in the machine direction and the cross-machine direction of the tissue sheet and a significant level of stretch in both directions provides improved perception of strength and resistance to "poke through" in use. TEA is calculated as the area under the stree-strain curve for the tissue sheet. Poke through resistance of the tissue sheet is also represented by a normalized burst strength of from 20 to 40 cm.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed September 20, 2004 and granted March 13, 2012. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended September 20, 2024.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by September 20, 2026.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
