Abstract From the Canadian patent

A ferroelectric varactor suitable for capacitive shunt switching is disclosed. High resistivity silicon with a SiO2 layer and a patterned metallic layer deposited on top is used as the substrate. A ferroelectric thin-film layer deposited on the substrate is used for the implementation of the varactor. A top metal electrode is deposited on the ferroelectric thin-film layer forming a CPW transmission line. By using the capacitance formed by the large area ground conductors in the top metal electrode and bottom metallic layer a , series connection of the ferroeledric varactor with the large capacitor defined by the ground conductors is created. The large capacitor acts as a short to …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed October 15, 2004 and granted November 24, 2015. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended October 15, 2024.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 15, 2026.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
