A method and system for automated video quality assessment which reduces the adverse effects of sub-field/frame misalignments between the reference and test sequences. More particularly, the invention provides for misalignments down to a sub-field/frame level to be handled by individually matching subfield/frame elements of a test video field/frame with sub-field/frame elements from a reference video field/frame. The use of a matching element size that is significantly smaller than the video field/frame size enables transient subfield/frame misalignments to be effectively tracked.

Why it's free to use
- Filed June 4, 2004 and granted November 10, 2015. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 4, 2024.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 4, 2026.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
