The hair clip comprises two combs (12) and at least one elastic member (14) to bias the teeth (12.2) of the combs towards each other in overlapping relationship. The teeth of the combs are similar and are at least slightly wider than the spaces (18) between the teeth. In use the combs may be twisted , relatively to each other while inserting them into engagement such that some , of the teeth of one comb overlay and others underlay the teeth of the other comb so as to clamp hair between the two combs. Preferably the teeth are oval or elliptical in cross-section, such that they interfit partially with the teeth with which they are engaged.

Why it's free to use
- Filed June 21, 2004 and granted February 7, 2012. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 21, 2024.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 21, 2026.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
