Abstract From the Canadian patent

The invention relates to a method for conveying management information in a WDM system from a number of wavelength converters (10a) to a central management unit (16), wherein a management information signal is superimposed on the WDM signal from the respective wavelength converter (10a). A fraction of the optical signal in the common optical transmission line (13a) is tapped off to a detector (18) and the different management information signals are recovered by a receiver unit (19) which is connected to the detector (18). The invention also relates to a WDM system and a pluggable WDM wavelength converter.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed May 11, 2004 and granted January 28, 2014. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended May 11, 2024.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 11, 2026.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
