Abstract From the Canadian patent

A hydrogen fuel cell power system having improved efficiency comprises a fuel cell (14), a source of hydrogen gas (14) a compressor (64) for creating a , pressurized air stream and a liquid supply which is heated by waste heat from the power system and evaporates into the pressurized air stream (70) to produce a pressurized air and steam mixture. The pressurized air/steam mixture (70), which is preferably used as the oxidant in the fuel cell is combusted , with the fuel in a burner (12) to produce a high-temperature steam-laden exhaust stream (30). The high-temperature steam-laden exhaust stream (30) drives an expander (32) to produce a power output. The evaporation of liquid can …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed December 31, 2003 and granted April 23, 2013. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended December 31, 2023.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 31, 2025.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
