Abstract From the Canadian patent

The invention relates to a method of optimising the joints between layers at the part thereof which is flush with the surface of a part obtained by means of computer-aided modelling or prototyping of the type involving layer decomposition. The invention is characterised in that the connecting profile of two successive layers is mathematically and numerically defined using an algorithm in which the surface of the joint (7) at the end zone close to the exposed part is always essentially normal n to the plane which is tangential to the surface at the exposed point. The invention can be used in prototyping modelling and tooling.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed February 6, 2003 and granted November 12, 2013. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended February 6, 2023.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by February 6, 2025.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
