The method for automatic checking of the availability of a lift installation (1) with at least one lift (1.1 1.2), comprises the following steps (S1 - S11). There is ascertained: at least one first estimated value (N S(it)) for a use frequency of the lift (1.1 1.2) for a first time period and/or a second estimated value (N S(i,t+.DELTA.t)) for the use frequency for a second time period wherein the second time period begins at a later point in time than the first time period. A measurement value (Nm(i,t)) for the use frequency for the first time period is determined and the measurement value compared with at least one of the estimated values (N S(i,t) N S(i,t+.DELTA.t)).
