Abstract From the Canadian patent

The invention provides a system for determining geologic formation resistivity while drilling and a new method providing compensation for the vertical asymmetries of the tool response and the effects of borehole rugosity. The apparatus and method allows the construction of a tool body (12) considerably shorter in length than previous devices and provides more radial depths of investigation for a given number of transmitter and receiver antennas when compared to previous devices. A method for calibrating data acquisition errors of the system is also described.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed August 19, 2003 and granted December 10, 2013. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended August 19, 2023.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by August 19, 2025.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
