The invention relates to compositions and methods useful in the labeling and identification of proteins. The invention provides for highly soluble zwitterionic dye molecules where the dyes and associated side groups are nontitratable and maintain their net zwitterionic character over a broad pH range, e.g. between pH 3 and 12. These dye molecules find utility in a variety of applications, including use in the field of proteomics.

Why it's free to use
- Filed July 18, 2003. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended July 18, 2023.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 18, 2025.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
