Systems and methods for analyzing a source image. A source image data set is generated from the source image. The source image data set comprises display data, and location data. The location data indicates the location of the display data with, reference to a two-dimensional coordinate system. The display data is used to reproduce the source image. A surface model is generated based on the source image, data set. The surface model is defined by location data corresponding to the location, data of the source image data set and intensity data generated based on the display, data. The surface model is analyzed to determine features of the source image.
