An apparatus for noninvasively monitoring the flow and/or the composition of a flowing liquid using ultrasound is described. The position of the resonance peaks for a fluid excited by a swept-frequency ultrasonic signal have been found to change frequency both in response to a change in composition and in response to a change in the flow velocity thereof. Additionally the distance , between successive resonance peaks does not change as a function of flow but , rather in response to a change in composition. Thus a measurement of both , parameters (resonance position and resonance spacing) once calibrated, permits the simultaneous determination of flow rate and composition using the …

Why it's free to use
- Filed June 10, 2003 and granted April 17, 2012. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 10, 2023.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 10, 2025.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
