Abstract From the Canadian patent

The present invention relates to a particle characterization apparatus in which particles suspended in a liquid passes through an orifice or aperture for detection and characterization of the particles utilising impedance determination. In particular the invention relates to utilisation of a membrane of a polymer as a base material for precision machining of a submillimetre orifice. Forming the orifice in a polymer membrane facilitates the construction of a single use cartridge for haematology analysis due to low material and production costs.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed June 11, 2003 and granted December 18, 2012. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 11, 2023.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 11, 2025.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
