Abstract From the Canadian patent

The present invention provides flexible user-definable call screening , processes. The user (112) can optionally define to which telecommunication terminals a screened call is to be broadcast to and under what conditions. An incoming call is forwarded to a call management system (124) that asks the caller (102) to leave a voice message. The call management system (124) selectively couples the call to a POTS line or a VoIP-capable device (110) so that the user (112) can listen to the incoming message and thereby screen the incoming call. Based on the screening, the user (112) can instruct the call management system (124) to connect the caller (102) to the user (112).

Why it's free to use

  • Filed May 19, 2003. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended May 19, 2023.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 19, 2025.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
