Abstract From the Canadian patent

In a telecommunications system, an arithmetic logic unit (ALU) (100) that receives an input signal. The input signal includes a digital signal representative of an analog signal. The ALU (100) selectively performs compression and decompression on the digital signal. The ALU comprises the following elements. A standard ALU component (102) performs standard ALU operations on the input signal. An encoding unit (104) selectively performs compression on the digital signal. A decoding unit (106) selectively performs decompression on the digital signal. An instruction decoder (110) receives and decodes an ALU instruction. An output selector (108) selects a result from one of the standard …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed March 11, 2003. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended March 11, 2023.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by March 11, 2025.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
