A wireless data transmission system (1) uses modulation onto a multi-level symbol (11), so that a multi-level frequency shifted signal can be generated (14). By using a Gaussian filter (13), inter-symbol interference can be introduced. The demodulation process (2) makes use of templates corresponding to each of the possible symbol transitions so that knowledge of previously , decoded symbols can be used to decode the next one.

Why it's free to use
- Filed January 16, 2003 and granted March 13, 2012. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended January 16, 2023.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by January 16, 2025.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
