Abstract From the Canadian patent

The inventive method and device for protecting information against unauthorised use makes it possible to detect a user who submits a copy for unauthorised copying. Information obtained by the user is coded by means of an asymmetrical cryptography method using said user's key which is received by a distributor of information. The information is decoded before the use thereof with the aid of a privet key of the user. In order to improve the protection the decoding can be carried out directly in the processor of the computer of the user in such a way that the decoded information does not exist outside said processor.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed November 12, 2001. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended November 12, 2021.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 12, 2023.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
