Abstract From the Canadian patent

A method for obtaining extracts from a natural mixture of conjugated oestrogens from the urine of pregnant mares (PMU) is described. The extracts obtained according to the invention meet the pharmaceutical specification in relation to conjugated oestrogens and the minimising of the content of free oestrogens, even if old pregnant mares' urine and/or pregnant mares' urine which has been stored or transported at elevated temperatures is used. The extracts containing a mixture of conjugated oestrogens are obtained from the PMU by solid-phase extraction on semipolar adsorption resins.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed November 27, 2002 and granted February 21, 2012. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended November 27, 2022.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 27, 2024.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
