In one embodiment, the invention is directed toward frequency tracking techniques using both the pilot and non-pilot symbols. The contribution of nonpilot symbols to the estimation can be weighted according to a confidence level. In some cases, soft decisions are generated for the non-pilot symbols and then used with the pilot symbols for frequency tracking.

Why it's free to use
- Filed November 7, 2002 and granted March 13, 2012. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended November 7, 2022.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 7, 2024.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
