Abstract From the Canadian patent

A process for preparing zirconium-cerium-based mixed oxides which comprises reacting an alkali with an aqueous solution of a zirconium salt containing 0.42-0.7 mole of sulphate anion (SO42-) per mole of zirconium cation at a temperature of not greater than 50 ~C, in the presence of a cerium salt to form a cerium-zirconium mixed hydroxide and then calcining the cerium-, zirconium mixed hydroxide to form a mixed oxide. The mixed oxides possess good thermal stability and are essentially single phase and are suitable as promoters and catalyst supports in, particularly automobile exhaust systems.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed October 30, 2002 and granted September 17, 2013. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended October 30, 2022.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 30, 2024.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
