Hair follicle stem cells are isolated from mammals by isolating nestinexpressing cells. These hair follicle stem cells are a source of adult stem cells for autologous or heterologous stem cell therapy. The stem cells can be systemically implanted into the mammal or directly implanted into the organ. In addition, the stem cells may be further differentiated in vitro and then implanted systemically or directly into the mammal.

Why it's free to use
- Filed September 20, 2002 and granted January 5, 2016. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended September 20, 2022.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by September 20, 2024.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
