Abstract From the Canadian patent

A satellite radiotelephone frequency (fU,fD) can be reused terrestrially by an ancillary terrestrial network (Fig.1) even within the same satellite cell using interference cancellation techniques. Moreover the ancillary network , can use a modified range of satellite band forward link frequencies (f'D) for transmission, to reduce interference with out-of-band receivers. A modified range of satellite band forward link frequencies that is used by the ancillary terrestrial network can include only a subset of the standard satellite band forward link frequencies to provide a guard band can include power levels , that monotonically decrease as a function of increasing frequency and/or can …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed August 5, 2002 and granted October 23, 2012. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended August 5, 2022.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by August 5, 2024.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
