Abstract From the Canadian patent

A method of determining the concentration of an analyte in a fluid test sample that in- cludes providing an electrochemical sensor adapted to measure the analyte in the test sample. The test sample sufficiently covers a counter and working electrode of the electrochemical sensor. A first potential is applied between the counter and working electrodes for a first pre- determined time period and the current is measured and the time is recorded. After the first potential is removed or substantially reduced a second potential is applied between the counter and working electrodes and the current is measured. The concentration of the analyte is determined in the test sample as a function of the …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed February 5, 2004 and granted September 17, 2019. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended February 5, 2024.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by February 5, 2026.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
