Abstract From the Canadian patent

A wound treatment apparatus (10) has a vacuum bandage (28) covering a wound (22) of a patient, a vacuum source (110) coupled to the vacuum bandage (28) and a controller (20) that operates the vacuum source (110) to apply negative pressure to the wound (22) through the bandage (28) in a controlled manner. The controller (20) is programmed to limit the rate of change of the negative pressure applied to the wound (22). A caregiver has the ability to change one or more negative pressure setpoint values and the controller (20) of the wound treatment apparatus (10) controls the rate of change of the negative pressure to reduce patient discomfort.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed July 10, 2002. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended July 10, 2022.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 10, 2024.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
