A system for dimensioning large or palletized freight of one or more pieces , determines the dimensions of a rectangular prism having the smallest volume but which would contain the freight. The system is capable of being positioned remotely. The system further determines the dimensions in varying levels of ambient light and varying object surface reflectance. The system still further first rapidly scans an area to determine the general location of the boundaries of the freight, and then more precisely scans the determined general boundaries of the freight to determine the precise boundaries of the freight.

Why it's free to use
- Filed July 1, 2002. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended July 1, 2022.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 1, 2024.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
