Abstract From the Canadian patent

A well logging system and method are disclosed for detecting the presence and estimating the quantity of gaseous and liquid hydrocarbons in the near wellbore zone. The system uses a gradient-based multiple-frequency NMR , logging tool to extract signal components characteristic for each type of hydrocarbons. To this end, new data acquisition methods are proposed in which measurements at different frequencies are interleaved to obtain in an single , logging pass, multiple data streams corresponding to different recovery times and/or diffusivity for the same spot in the formation (225 245, 265). The , resultant data streams are processed to determine mineralogy-independent water and …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed June 5, 2002 and granted August 11, 2015. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 5, 2022.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 5, 2024.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
