In a borehole logging tool (e.g. 140), the flow of conductive fluid into or out of a wellbore at the wellbore wall is detected and measured with a sensor loop (e.g. 108) proximate the borehole inner wall. The sensor loop includes a series of contiguous sensors (e.g. 129) that act as electromagnetic flowmeters and provide fluid measurements covering the entire circumference of the sensor loop. The sensor loop includes an elastic element (e.g. 124) that forces the sensor loop outward to maintain pressure along the sensor loop circumference against the interior borehole wall. The sensor loop is designed to lie at a non-perpendicular angle to the wellbore axis and mechanical arms , …

Why it's free to use
- Filed May 30, 2002 and granted April 5, 2011. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended May 30, 2022.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 30, 2024.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
