This cleaning system 100 includes compressor 102 driven by a motor 104; a , condenser 101; a cooling fan 105 for directing an air stream at the condenser 101 during normal operation; a motor drive system 106 for driving the fan 105 and a timing device 110 for reversing the rotational direction of the fan motor 130 to direct the stream of cooling air away from the condenser 101 to remove debris collected on the condenser and clean the condenser during a cleaning cycle. The fan 105 is driven by drive system 106 having a solid state commutated motor 130 or a drive system 106 having a reversible permanent split capacitor motor 130b.
