Abstract From the Canadian patent

The present invention provides methods and kits for the rapid exponential amplification of nucleic acid molecules using a padlock probe. The present invention improves upon the existing methods for amplifying padlock probes by eliminating or delaying the appearance of artifact products that cause false positive results, and also increase the sensitivity and speed of the assay. Further provided are nucleic acid amplification primers containing noninformative base analogs.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed February 27, 2002 and granted April 15, 2014. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended February 27, 2022.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by February 27, 2024.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
