Abstract From the Canadian patent

In the preferred embodiment, the invention provides a modified Shortest Path First , routing algorithm for use in a heterogeneous network. The routing algorithm is modified to include predetermined heterogeneous characteristics of the network nodes and to take these characteristics into account when calculating the shortest , paths. For example, information may be included in the algorithm which identifies , heterogeneous network nodes as it calculates shortest paths. Once a node has been , identified as heterogeneous, i.e. capable of supporting at least two protocol sets, this , information is carried over into subsequent path entries created by the routing , algorithm. The …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed August 20, 2003 and granted December 9, 2014. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended August 20, 2023.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by August 20, 2025.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
