Abstract From the Canadian patent

The aircraft applicable ground fault circuit interrupter interrupts a circuit when a current imbalance is sensed. The circuit interrupter includes a power supply, a sensor for sensing a current imbalance at the line side of the circuit, a logic controller, and a power controller. The power supply provides power to the sensor, logic controller, and the power controller. The logic controller receives input from the sensor and the power controller receives , input from the logic controller and interrupts power to the load side of the circuit when the sensor senses a current imbalance. Power interruption due to a sensed current imbalance is maintained until the power source is cycled. …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed January 30, 2002 and granted March 27, 2012. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended January 30, 2022.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by January 30, 2024.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
