Abstract From the Canadian patent

A ring brake has a ring braking member with a caliper arrangement rotatably supported on the ring braking member. This arrangement is particularly useful for any live axle or rotating shaft application which requires braking. The ring brake is easily secured on a live shaft and is easily secured on a live shaft and is movable therealong in a simple manner. The mounting of the caliper on the rotating braking member maintains alignment of the brake pads with the rotating braking member even if racking of a frame or surrounding environment occurs. Thus the ring brake defines a stable environment and the caliper is merely held in a non rotable manner by a simple connecting link.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed July 22, 2003 and granted September 27, 2011. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended July 22, 2023.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 22, 2025.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
