Abstract From the Canadian patent

The present invention relates to a device that dynamically applies the energy of the voice as a control signal to modulate the volume of an input microphone signal, to achieve dynamic voice activated noise suppression. When the energy of the microphone signal is low, very little amplification energy is applied to boost the, volume of the microphone signal. If the energy is medium to high amplification, energy is applied to the microphone output sufficient to raise the signal level to, audible levels. The perceptual effect of this is that the ambient noise appears (to the, listener) to be removed from the signal. This is due to the psychoacoustic effect that, louder signals tend to mask …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed July 22, 2003. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended July 22, 2023.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 22, 2025.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
