Abstract From the Canadian patent

A method for identifying and isolating cells which produce secreted proteins. This method is based upon a specific characteristic or the expression level of the secreted protein by transiently capturing the secreted protein on the surface of an individual cell, allowing selection of rare cell clones from heterogeneous population. Also provided is the use of this method to generate cells which produce a desired level of secreted protein or secreted protein of a particular characteristic(s), and organisms which possess such cells. In particular, the method allows rapid isolation of high expression recombinant antibody-producing cell lines, or may be applied directly to rapid isolation …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed January 16, 2002 and granted May 28, 2013. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended January 16, 2022.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by January 16, 2024.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
