An improved method and apparatus for distributing a food product such as , potato chips, which provides a laminar flow of product to the weigher (210a). The laminar flow of product is provided using a gate (215a) which regulates the amount of product dropped through the distribution conveyor (100) to an amount that is equivalent to the flow rate created by the set of weighers/bagmakers associated with that gate. This results in some of the product being deposited through the gate while the remainder of the product bypasses the gate for deposit in a subsequent gate.

Why it's free to use
- Filed January 8, 2002. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended January 8, 2022.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by January 8, 2024.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
