Abstract From the Canadian patent

A compensator for optical transmission systems exploits gain tilt inherent in optical , amplifiers. The amount of SRS induced spectral power gradient is determined and , the amplifier gain is changed to cause a compensating gain gradient in the optical , amplifier to compensate for the SRS induced spectral power gradient. Fewer components are needed, and so it can be less expensive. It can be implemented as , a simple software upgrade to existing systems. Many such compensators can be distributed through the system, without requiring a large inventory of individually , specified filters. More accurate compensation can be achieved by making it dependent on the distribution of …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed June 25, 2003 and granted November 13, 2012. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 25, 2023.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 25, 2025.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
